In a tight game it was the New York Yankees 5, the St. Louis Cardinals 3 at
Yankee Stadium.

New York had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning.  The
biggest moment was provided by Sid Gordon who made the home-town crowd a
happy bunch when he bombed a two-run dinger.  New York ended up with 10 hits
for the game while St. Louis had 6.  

Ken Heintzelman(6-7) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Ted
Gray recorded the save, his 8th.  The loss was charged to Chuck Stobbs(5-3)
in relief.  

The New York ballclub's record now stands at 38-30.  With this loss, St. Louis
has a 4-6 record of late, 35-37 overall.
