Frank Buttery allowed John Clapp to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Frank McCarton had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Mansfield Grounds as the
Middletown Mansfields beat the Brooklyn E Eckfords by the count of 23 to
14.
McCarton had a big day at the plate. He doubled in the 3rd inning, doubled
plating two runs in the 4th inning, doubled which brought home a run in the
7th inning and doubled scoring a run in the 8th inning. Middletown provided
plenty of action in the 1st inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits, the
2nd inning with 4 runs on 3 hits and the 4th inning which saw them plate 7
runs on 5 hits. Middletown had many opportunities throughout the game and
scored in 6 separate innings.
Buttery(3-0) lasted until the end allowing 14 runs for the win. Martin
Malone(0-2) was the losing pitcher. Middletown knocked him around a bit, as
he gave up 23 runs in 8 innings.
'I felt great out there today,' McCarton said, 'Maybe I should make a regular
habit of getting to bed on time!'
