WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Joe Sullivan robbed Bob Allen of a base hit.

Duke Esper completed the game without help from the bullpen at Baseball
Grounds where the Washington Senators beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2 to
1.

Washington scored 2 runs in the 5th inning when they came up with 3 base hits.
Esper led off and started the rally when he delivered a one-base hit. Paul
Radford came next and he banged out a single. Dummy Hoy then laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Jim O'Rourke followed and he hit a deep fly resulting in a
run. Radford proceeded to steal third base. Sam Wise did his part to keep
things going and slapped a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning.
Philadelphia had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Esper(3-7) who went the distance, allowing 1 run.
Tom Vickery(3-1) took the loss. 'You have to give Philadelphia credit, they
fought us tough to the end' O'Rourke said. 'It could have gone either way,
but I'm glad we pulled out the victory.'
