At Huntington Ave Grnds, the Boston-AL fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Frank Smith(3-4) finally bested his Boston-AL opposite, Rube Waddell(6-5), by
the score of 2 to 1.

Pittsburgh had 1 run cross the plate in the 7th inning. After an out was
recorded, Harry Davis ripped a one-base hit. Socks Seybold came next and he
drew a walk. Doc Casey then delivered a base-hit scoring the run. The
Boston-AL bats were silent in the bottom of the 9th.

Smith got help from Sam Leever who was credited with his 2nd save. The loss
was charged to Waddell. He surrendered only 2 runs and 5 hits in 9 innings.
