Jocko Thompson didn't allow a hit until the 9th inning as the Philadelphia-NL
Phillies defeated the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 2 to 0 at Crosley
Field.
Thompson(4-3) simply dominated Cincinnati. He allowed only 1 hit and 4 walks
in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.60. The left-handed Thompson lost a
no-hitter when Enos Slaughter singled with two outs in the 9th inning.
Philadelphia-NL had just 6 hits for the afternoon.
Paul Minner(3-2) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 2 hits in
3 innings. 'Thompson was the man today,' Mark McGonigle said. 'He had just
about every pitch working.'
