Tim Murnane had 6 hits and 5 RBI and Cy Bentley had a complete game at
Mansfield Grounds as the Middletown Mansfields, running on all cylinders,
ripped the Brooklyn E Eckfords by a large 37 to 10 margin.
Murnane was spectacular at the plate. He banged out a single in the 2nd
inning, delivered a one-base hit which plated a run in the 4th inning,
doubled which brought home a run in the 6th inning, laced a single in the 7th
inning, laced a base-knock in the 8th inning and slapped a single bringing in
two baserunners in the 8th inning. Middletown kept the scorekeepers busy in
the 4th inning when they had 9 runs on 8 hits and the 6th inning with 9 runs
on 10 hits. The Middletown offense smacked the Brooklyn E pitching staff
around, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
Bentley(3-8) finished the game allowing 10 runs in the victory. Jim
Clinton(0-1) took the loss. He gave up 37 runs in 8 innings of work.
Murnane was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want
to see how that game looks on paper.'
