Red Donahue tossed a complete game at Baker Bowl as the seemingly unstoppable
Philadelphia Phillies came back dramatically to top the Cincinnati Reds by
the score of 3 to 2.

Philadelphia scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2
hits. After an out was recorded, Hughie Jennings jump-started the rally as
he doubled. Ed McFarland followed and he drew a walk. Monte Cross then drew
a walk to load the bases. Al Orth stepped in and he reached on an error
which brought home a run. One out later, Shad Barry came to bat and hit a
single giving Philadelphia the victory and sending the 9,838 home-town fans
home happy. Philadelphia banged out 12 hits on the afternoon.

Donahue(5-6) allowed 2 runs on the game. Doc Newton(5-7) was the losing
pitcher. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 6 walks
in 8 and 1/3 innings.

Bill Shettsline was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when
asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he
volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Bid
McPhee, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you
come up on the short end of one of these!'
