Chief Bender allowed Connie Mack to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the Philadelphia Athletics outscored the Washington Nationals in 11
innings 3 to 2.

The score was tied at 2 after nine.  Finally, Philadelphia prevailed in the
11th inning.  Harry Davis ripped a single.  Home Run Baker stepped into the
batter's box and he lined a one-base hit.  One out later, Ira Thomas then
worked the squeeze play to perfection resulting in an exciting win for
Philadelphia and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Philadelphia had just 6 hits for the afternoon.  

The win was credited to Bender(8-2) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
The loss was charged to Dolly Gray(4-5).  He pitched 10 and 1/3 innings
allowing 6 hits and 4 walks.
