Tom Hughes carried a no-hitter into the 9th inning as the Washington Nationals
topped the Philadelphia Athletics by a score of 7 to 1 at Shibe
Park.

Hughes(5-4) simply dominated Philadelphia.  He gave up just 2 hits and 1 walk
in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 3.03 to 2.70.  The right-handed Hughes had
his no-hit bid broken up by Eddie Collins who singled with nobody out in the
9th inning.  Washington managed 10 hits in their victory.  

Jack Coombs(10-5) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 8
innings.  'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Hughes.
'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and
everything went well.'
