WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Philadelphia turns a triple play!

Third baseman Denny Lyons had 3 base hits and 5 RBI as the Philadelphia
Athletics topped the Syracuse Stars by a score of 15 to 11 at League
Park.

Lyons had a good day at the plate. He lined a one-base hit resulting in a run
in the 3rd inning, ripped a base-knock bringing home two baserunners in the
3rd inning and doubled bringing in a run in the 5th inning. Philadelphia
provided plenty of action in the 3rd inning which saw them score 8 runs on 8
hits. Syracuse was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate
innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is
also needed to win ballgames.

The victory went to Duke Esper(4-5) who went 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 11
runs. Dan Casey(3-16) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and
5 walks in 3 innings.
