Al Mattern had a complete game as the Boston Doves defeated the New York
Giants by the score of 8 to 3 at Polo Grounds.

Mattern(3-8) contributed a very nicely pitched game.  He allowed only 7 hits
and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 4.28 to 3.86.  Boston had a
total of 16 hits for the game.  

Rube Marquard(5-3) took the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 16 hits
and 4 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.
