Ralph Works was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Jim Delahanty cracked a homer and had 6 RBI at Bennett Park
as the Detroit Tigers embarrassed the Cleveland Naps by the lopsided score of
16 to 1.
Delahanty was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He doubled
bringing in two baserunners in the 1st inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly'
in the 6th inning and delivered a base-hit resulting in a run in the 8th
inning. Detroit bats were hot in the 1st inning which saw them score 4 runs
on 3 hits and the 8th inning when they had 5 runs on 6 hits. Detroit totaled
19 hits on the afternoon.
Works(4-4) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Cy Young(1-2) took the
loss. He gave up 14 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings of work.
Wth the win Detroit now has a record of 29-32. With the loss Cleveland now
has a record of 24-38, worst in the league.
