In a tight game it was the Cincinnati Reds 3, the New York-AL Yankees 1 in 11
innings at Yankee Stadium.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Cincinnati came out
the victor in the 11th inning.  Enos Slaughter kicked off the action when he
drew a walk.  Larry Doby came to the plate and drew a walk.  Bob Elliott then
laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Gil McDougald came to bat and
doubled scoring two teammates.  Cincinnati had 7 hits for the night while New
York-AL had 4.  

Frank Smith(6-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Smith was
helped out by Stu Miller who recorded his 15th save.  Satchel Paige(1-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.  

Cincinnati now has a record of a league leading 31-19.  With the loss, New
York-AL has a record of 6-4 lately, 25-25 overall.
