Ray Boone had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Washington Nationals outscored the
Pittsburgh Pirates 9 to 6.

Boone provided much of the offense. He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the
1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, lined a base-hit in the 6th inning and
smacked a single in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.

The win went to Don Newcombe(2-0) who allowed 5 runs in 6 innings. Vern Law
recorded the save, his 6th. Billy Pierce(5-5) was the loser. He gave up 7
runs and 6 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.

The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 17-33. Pittsburgh will hope
that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run - and not a start of
a new trend.
