Elmer Steele had a strong outing at Shibe Park as the Philadelphia-AL
Athletics beat the St. Louis-AL Browns 6 to 3.
Philadelphia-AL took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 2nd inning
plating 2 runs on 3 base hits. Art Fletcher led off the inning for
Philadelphia-AL when he ripped a base-hit. Ira Thomas stepped up to the
plate and he delivered a single. Steele then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Al
Bridwell stepped in and he delivered a one-base hit which was good for two
runs. Overall Philadelphia-AL out-hit St. Louis-AL 12 to 6.
The victory went to Steele(6-1) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. Joe Benz
recorded the save, his 2nd. Ed Walsh(7-5) was charged with the loss. He got
hammered, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.
