St. Louis was unable to climb back into it after New York went ahead for good in the 2nd inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Esterbrook ripped a base-hit. Welch stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an error. One out later, Jim O'Rourke then slapped a single scoring the run. St. Louis made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The win went to Welch(8-10) who allowed 2 runs in the game. John Kirby(0-3) absorbed the loss. Jim Mutrie was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning these tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt about it!'
