Bob Caruthers went the distance at League Park where the St. Louis Browns beat
the Cincinnati Red Stockings by the score of 5 to 1.

St. Louis came up with 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning when they came up
with 4 base hits.  Caruthers started the scoring when he clubbed a solo home
run.  After an out was recorded, Hugh Nicol came up and he reached on an
error.  Charlie Comiskey then called for a steal which was successful.  Doc
Bushong followed and he laced a one-base hit plating one more runner.  Arlie
Latham followed, but he was set down on strikes.  Bill Gleason added to the
rally and smacked a single.  Tip O'Neill stepped up next and he laced a
base-knock scoring the final run of the inning.  St. Louis finished with just
6 hits in the victory.  

Caruthers(9-5) allowed 1 run on the game. Tony Mullane(13-11) was the loser.
St. Louis now has a record of 30-24.  Cincinnati has a record of 26-31 after
the loss.
