Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Philadelphia won the game in the 10th inning. Schrecongost singled. Danny Murphy was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Waddell then reached on an error. Topsy Hartsel was up next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Simon Nicholls came up to bat and banged out a single making Philadelphia the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Philadelphia finished with 16 hits in the victory. Waddell(10-3) got the victory, allowing 5 runs for the game. John McDonald(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Waddell offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'
