In a thriling finish the Boston-NL Braves pulled off the win over the reeling
Washington Nationals by a score of 5 to 4 at South End Grounds.

The game was decided in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Sam
Crawford slapped a single, and an error was also committed. One out later,
Syd Smith came to bat and slapped a one-base hit. George Jackson then drew a
walk to load the bases. Eddie Stack then uncorked a wild one that found its
way to the backstop giving Boston-NL the win much to the delight of the home
town crowd. Boston-NL ended up with 15 hits for the game while Washington
had 7.

The win was credited to Ed Donnelly(2-2) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. Jack Coombs(6-7) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around by
Boston-NL, allowing 15 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.

The Boston-NL ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 37-24.
Gordon Renaud was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering
along lately, something like 1-9 in the last week or two. That won't get it
done.'
