Pol Perritt shut down the Boston batters on just 4 hits as the New York Giants
topped the Boston Braves in 11 innings by a score of 1 to 0 at Polo
Grounds.
The score was a scoreless tie after nine. New York won the hard fought
contest in the 11th inning. Fred Snodgrass ripped a base-knock. George
Burns next to the plate and he smacked a single. Burns took second on the
throw. Two outs later Dave Robertson came to the plate and banged out a
single resulting in an exciting win for New York and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. New York had 8 hits for the afternoon.
Perritt(5-4) was credited with the shutout. Tom Hughes(11-3) suffered the
loss. He pitched 10 and 2/3 innings allowing only 8 hits and no walks.
'He came out with good stuff,' John McGraw said about Perritt. 'He threw the
ball good from the first pitch on.'
