Don Newcombe was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Joe Garagiola cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the
Washington Nationals won at Griffith Stadium in dramatic fashion over the New
York-AL Yankees, the final score, 7 to 5.

Washington had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 2 hits.
After an out was recorded, Gus Bell began the rally when he ripped a single.
Garagiola came to the plate and clubbed a two-run home run making Washington
the winners and sending the 13,827 fans home happy.  Washington totaled 13
hits on the afternoon.  

The victory was credited to Newcombe(5-7) who went the distance, allowing 5
runs. Robin Roberts(6-5) ended up with the loss.  He allowed 13 hits and 2
walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.  

The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 28-39.  With the loss New
York-AL now has a record of 31-32.
