Vic Wertz had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Cincinnati
Reds by the score of 11 to 7 at Ebbets Field.

Wertz had a big day at the plate. He tripled which scored a run in the 1st
inning, ripped a base-hit in the 5th inning, hit a single in the 6th inning
and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 8th inning. Cincinnati was not
lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory
eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win
ballgames.

The winning pitcher was Gene Conley(3-6) who allowed 5 runs in 7 innings.
Eddie Lopat(3-5) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering
10 runs in 6 innings.
