Gilligan had a big day at the plate. He tripled in the 3rd inning, tripled in the 7th inning and tripled bringing in two baserunners in the 8th inning. Providence simply wore out the Chicago pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings. Radbourn(12-6), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Fred Goldsmith(10-5) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 11 runs in 9 innings. Harry Wright was very impressed with his pitcher, Radbourn, 'He had unusually good pitch placement this afternoon.
