In a thriller the New York Highlanders staged a dramatic comeback over the
Washington Nationals winning by a score of 9 to 8 at Hilltop Park.

New York won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning as they
scored 5 runs on 5 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Birdie
Cree who brought a roar from the partisan Hilltop Park fans when he tripled
bringing in two baserunners. Despite losing, Washington out-hit New York 14
to 11.

Hippo Vaughn(2-4) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. The
loss was charged to Tom Hughes(6-8) in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk
in 2/3 of an inning.

Vaughn and Cree were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great
come from behind victory. As Hal Chase noted, 'A win like this one can do
wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the
players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
