Vern Bickford(3-1)with bullpen help handcuffed the Philadelphia Phillies
batters at Shibe Park in a day game.  The New York Yankees scored 6 runs for
the win.

New York took the lead for good in the top of the 4th inning when they tallied
2 runs on 2 hits.  The big moment was provided by Del Ennis who helped quiet
the crowd when he clubbed a two-run home run.  New York had 13 hits for the
afternoon while Philadelphia had 3.  

The losing pitcher was Virgil Trucks(4-4).  He got hammered, allowing 9 hits
and 3 walks in 6 innings.  With this win, New York has a 28-25 record.  They
have been 7-3 lately.  Philadelphia continued their losing ways and their
