Right fielder Carl Furillo had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Chicago-NL Cubs
topped the Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 5 at Griffith
Stadium.

Chicago-NL brought 3 runs across the plate in the 7th inning with the help of
5 hits.  Eddie Mathews got things rolling when he blasted a solo shot.
Furillo followed next and he lined a one-base hit.  Bill Sarni then laid down
a sacrifice bunt.  Mike Garcia was up next and he laced a single.  Bobby
Avila came to the plate and stroked a base-hit scoring another run.  Dave
Philley dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Duke Snider
followed and he ripped a single scoring the final run of the inning.
Washington threatened in the 9th but Chicago-NL was able to put down the
rally.  

Garcia(2-7) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Tom Gorman
recorded his 4th save.  Bob Rush(4-9) absorbed the loss.  

With this win, Chicago-NL has a league leading 44-29 record.  They have been
7-3 lately.  With the loss, the Washington ballclub's record is 32-37.
