Second baseman Monte Ward had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Mark Baldwin had a complete
game at League Park where the red-hot New York Giants beat the Cincinnati
Reds 9 to 7.
New York came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. King Kelly led off and keyed the rally when he laced
a base-hit. Baldwin stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error.
Harry Lyons then slapped a single to load the bases. After an out was
recorded, Eddie Burke came to the plate and was hit by a pitch which brought
home a run. Ward came up to bat and laced a one-base hit scoring the final
run of the inning. New York had 16 hits for the afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Baldwin(9-6) who allowed 7 runs for the game. Mike
Sullivan(1-3) was charged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 16 hits
and 3 walks in 9 innings.
With the win, New York continued their winning ways; their streak now stands
at 7 games and counting.
