WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Beals Becker robbed Tom Downey of an extra base hit.

Doc Crandall pitched a complete game at Polo Grounds as the seemingly
unstoppable New York Giants came back dramatically to top the Philadelphia
Phillies by the score of 5 to 4.

New York scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs on 3 hits. Chief Meyers led off and he lined a base-hit. Art Fletcher
stepped up next and he singled. Fletcher took second on a stolen base.
Moose McCormick came up and he drew a walk to load the bases. Fred Snodgrass
came to the plate and drew a walk knocking in a run. Larry Doyle extended
the rally and banged out a single giving New York the win as 9,821 happy fans
joyfully celebrated. Philadelphia out-hit New York 12 to 9, but New York
ended up with more runs.

Crandall(6-3) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. Ad Brennan(7-3) was
charged with the loss. 'What a win!', Crandall said. 'These are the kind of
games that stand out in your mind at the end of a season.'
