TEAM RISP- Cowboys: 6 for 26 Nationals: 5 for 21

First baseman Pop Joy had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Bill Wise pitched a complete
game at Capitol Grounds as the Washington Nationals pulled off a dramatic
comeback beating the Kansas City Cowboys by the count of 15 to
14.

Washington came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 3
runs on 3 hits. Patrick Larkins kicked off the action when he reached on an
error. Joy was next and he laced a single. Phil Baker then delivered a
base-hit to load the bases. Ernie Hickman then threw a high and inside pitch
that got by the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball bringing in a run.
Hickman then let loose a wild pitch bringing in another run. After an out
was recorded, Wise stepped up to the plate and he slapped a one-base hit
resulting in an exciting win for Washington and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Washington lit up the scoreboard in the
5th inning tallying 3 runs and the 9th inning which saw them score 3 runs on
3 hits. The Washington offense was as consistent as it was powerful. They
scored in every inning, making a joke of the Kansas City pitching.

Wise(10-12) lasted until the end allowing 14 runs for the win. Hickman(0-5)
took the loss. He gave up 15 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings of work.

'Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball, especially games like
this, of course,' Mike Scanlon offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a great
time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
