Second baseman Monte Ward had 2 base hits and 3 RBI and Crazy Schmit carried a
no-hitter into the 6th inning as the streaking New York Giants defeated the
Cincinnati Reds by the score of 9 to 1 at League Park.
Schmit(3-6) pitched a fine game. He went 8 and 1/3 innings surrendering 7
hits and 4 walks. The left-handed Schmit lost his chance for a no-hitter
when Bid McPhee singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. New York managed
9 hits in their victory.
Frank Dwyer(5-9) was the loser. With the win, New York continued their
winning ways; their streak now stands at 8 games and counting. Charlie
Comiskey was very irritated after the contest. 'Just our luck to run into a
team that's playing like a juggernaut right now. I have to congratulate John
Ward on his team's recent performance. A very impressive run.'
