1,787 fans were treated to a fine game at League Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Cleveland Spiders won by the
slimmest of margins, 10 to 9.

Chief Zimmer enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He doubled which scored a run in
the 4th inning, doubled in the 6th inning and doubled with all three runners
coming home in the 7th inning. Baltimore threatened in the 9th but their
rally came up short.

Frank Knauss(1-1) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Tony
Mullane(5-7) was given the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 3
walks in 8 innings.

'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Ned Hanlon said. 'It's bad
enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves,
that's really bad.'
