Left fielder Enos Slaughter touched them all and Dutch Leonard came through
with a solid 8 innings as the seemingly unstoppable Cincinnati Reds defeated
the slumping St. Louis Cardinals in 11 innings 6 to 5 at Crosley Field.

Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Finally, Cincinnati
prevailed in the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Marty Marion
clubbed a solo home run making Cincinnati the victor and beginning a joyous
home town celebration.  Both teams totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.

Satchel Paige(2-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Monk
Dubiel(3-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 hit and no
walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.
