Mickey Hughes whiffed 11 batters as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms defeated the
Louisville Colonels in 13 innings by a score of 5 to 3 at Eclipse Park.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Brooklyn was victorious in the
13th inning.  After two were out George Pinkney started the attack as he drew
a walk.  Pinkney took off for second and slid in with a stolen base.
Brooklyn continued their aggressive style with another stolen base.  Darby
O'Brien stepped in and he lined a one-base hit bringing in a run.  Brooklyn
got their 2nd stolen base of the inning.  Bob Caruthers kept the rally going
and delivered a single scoring the final run of the inning.  Brooklyn totaled
9 hits on the afternoon.  

Hughes(6-5), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Scott
Stratton(3-10) took the loss in relief.  Mordecai Davidson was impressed with
Hughes and his 11 strikeouts.  'It's tough to generate runs if you can't make
contact with the ball.'
