Right fielder Mike Tiernan hit for the cycle and had 5 RBI and Tim Keefe had a
complete game as the New York Giants smashed the overmatched Washington
Nationals, 14 to 4.

Tiernan enjoyed a big day at the plate. He tripled in the 1st inning, popped
a two-run clout over the fence in the 2nd inning, stroked a one-base hit
scoring a run in the 4th inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the
7th inning. New York had a total of 16 hits for the game.

Keefe(11-7) got the victory, allowing 4 runs for the game. Frank Gilmore(3-7)
was the losing pitcher. He was unable to control the New York offense and
allowed 16 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Tiernan said. 'That's
it'
