Fred Hutchinson delivered 7 solid innings as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
lifeless Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 5 to 2 at Fenway
Park.
Hutchinson(9-2) looked very much in control throughout the day. He gave up
just 2 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings improving his ERA from 2.88 to 2.68.
Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Nels Potter gained credit for his 11th save. Ray Poat(0-5) was hit with the
loss. 'This was a tough loss,' said Mark McGonigle, 'the kind that sticks
with you for awhile.'
