Lew Burdette went the distance as the Kansas City Athletics beat the
Cincinnati Reds by a score of 8 to 5.

Kansas City started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first plating 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  After an out was recorded,
Pete Runnels kicked off the action when he laced a one-base hit.  Mickey
Mantle stepped up to the plate and he bombed a two-run dinger.  Kansas City
banged out 10 hits on the afternoon.  

Burdette(2-4) finished the game allowing 5 runs in the victory. Warren
Hacker(5-5) was the loser.  He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 8 innings of
work.  

The Kansas City ballclub's record now stands at 24-36.  With this loss,
Cincinnati has a 7-3 record of late, 30-30 overall.
