Skowron was in a groove all day. The New York-AL fans hated to see him approaching the batter's box. He lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 1st inning, ripped a base-knock in the 6th inning and quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh out-hit New York-AL for the game, 8 hits to 3. The victory went to Billy Pierce(6-1) who went 5 innings, allowing 1 run. Pierce got help from Jack Harshman who was credited with his 1st save. Tommy Byrne(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He was not very effective, surrendering 12 runs in 9 innings. 'I had good swings today,' Skowron said, 'Everything felt right'.
