Al Spalding tossed a complete game and Tommy Beals had 4 hits and 5 RBI at Union Grounds as the very potent Boston ballclub belted the struggling Brooklyn Atlantics by the count of 27 to 1. Beals really lit it up for Boston. The Brooklyn fans let him have it for what he did to their boys. He tripled in the 4th inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 4th inning, doubled in the 8th inning and doubled plating two runs in the 9th inning. Boston bats were hot in the 4th inning which saw them score 10 runs on 8 hits and the 9th inning with 5 runs on 5 hits. The Boston offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings. The win went to Spalding(32-6) who allowed 1 run in the game. John Cassidy(1-12) suffered the loss. He gave up 25 runs in 8 innings of work. 'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Beals said. 'Whenever I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
