Mike Mattimore completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
Philadelphia Athletics beat the struggling Kansas City Cowboys by a score of
8 to 7.

Mattimore(5-6) had a fairly solid outing.  He was reached for 12 hits and 6
walks in 9 innings.  Philadelphia and Kansas City each finished the afternoon
with 12 hits.  

Bill Fagan(3-10) took the loss.  He got hammered, allowing 12 hits and 5 walks
in 9 innings.  The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 26-26.  Still
in a bad slump, with this loss, Kansas City is 1-9 lately and 10-40, worst in
the league on the year.
