Paul Hines had 4 hits and 5 RBI and John Clarkson went the distance at League
Park as the Boston Beaneaters, running on all cylinders, ripped the Cleveland
Spiders by a large 26 to 1 margin.

Hines enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He banged out a single in the 4th
inning, hit a one-base hit which was good for two runs in the 5th inning,
lined a base-hit in the 8th inning and tripled bringing home two baserunners
in the 9th inning. Boston lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd inning with 4
runs on 4 hits and the 9th inning when they had 8 runs on 6 hits. The Boston
offense smacked the Cleveland pitching staff around, scoring in 8 of the 9
innings.

The victory was credited to Clarkson(7-8) who went the distance, allowing 1
run. Ed Beatin(8-16) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 8 hits and 2
walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
