Homer Smoot had 3 base hits and Ed Murphy went the distance at Robison Field
as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Orphans by the count of 6 to
3.

St. Louis erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning plating 3 runs
on 3 base hits.  Otto Krueger led off and he ripped a single.  Jack Calhoun
came next and he ripped a one-base hit, and an error was also committed.
Fred Hartman then banged out a single scoring a run.  Hartman stole second
with some aggressive base running.  Jack Ryan stepped into the box and worked
the squeeze play to perfection scoring another baseruner.  Murphy added to
the rally and hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning.  St. Louis
finished with 12 hits in the victory.  

Murphy(4-7) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Pop
Williams(4-6) was given the loss.  He was unable to control the St. Louis
offense and allowed 12 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.
