The Philadelphia Phillies pitchers essentially took the day off at Crosley
Field as the Cincinnati Reds offense erupted for 9 runs while Dutch
Leonard(4-6), with relief help from Ted Wilks, held Philadelphia to 1
run.

Cincinnati took the lead off Bobby Shantz in the first inning scoring 3
runners on 3 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Leonard and
Cincinnati. That was all the run support Leonard required. Cincinnati had
12 hits for the afternoon.

The loss was charged to Shantz(3-4). He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 6
innings.
