Del Ennis had 2 base hits at Yankee Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
New York-AL Yankees in 10 innings 4 to 1.
Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. Pittsburgh ended up
winning it in the 10th inning. Red Schoendienst got things going when he
delivered a base-hit. Bill Renna stepped into the batter's box and he laid
down a sacrifice bunt. Mickey Vernon then reached on an error. After
another out, Ennis came to the plate and delivered a single scoring a
one-base hit run. Andy Carey came up to bat and smacked a single plating one
more runner. Al Dark extended the rally and doubled scoring the final run of
the inning. Pittsburgh finished with 10 hits while New York-AL ended up with
5.
The victory went to Bob Hooper(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Hooper got help from Ellis Kinder who earned his 9th save. Virgil
Trucks(3-9) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 10 hits and 3 walks in 10
