Second baseman Del Howard had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Rube Waddell reeled
off a total of 11 strikeouts as the Boston-AL Americans defeated the ice-cold
Cincinnati Reds by a score of 4 to 1 at Palace of the Fans.

Waddell(5-14) put on a good performance. He allowed just 6 hits and 3 walks
in 9 innings. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no
runs scored after that point.

The losing pitcher was Christy Mathewson(12-11). Waddell was humble when
questioned about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my
pitches this afternoon. But, I had great support behind me and I just threw
what was called. That was an extremely well called game!'
