Doc Scanlan completed the game without help from the bullpen and Tony Smith
had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Polo Grounds as the Brooklyn Superbas beat the
New York Giants 3 to 2.
The game was won by Brooklyn when they scored a run in the 8th inning. After
an out was recorded, Ed Lennox doubled. One out later, Smith came to bat and
singled scoring the run. New York had a chance in the 9th but they came up
short.
The win went to Scanlan(7-2) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Hooks Wiltse(3-6)
absorbed the loss. When questioned about the loss, New York's manager said,
'The fans got to see an exciting game out there this afternoon.
Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this time. Next time, though, we'll
be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'
