The very strong Chicago Cubs bested the Pittsburgh Pirates by a 7 to 3 score
at Forbes Field.

Chicago scored 4 runs in the top of the 3rd inning when they came up with 3
base hits.  That was all the runs Jimmy Lavender(4-4) needed.  Both teams
totaled 8 hits on the afternoon.  

Charlie Smith got the save, his 3rd.  The loss was charged to Marty
O'Toole(5-9).  He allowed 8 hits and 8 walks in 9 innings.
