Gregg(10-9) was simply too much for the St. Louis-AL batters. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Gregg whiffed an impressive total of 12 St. Louis-AL batters. The left-handed Gregg lost his chance for a no-hitter when Rube Marquard singled with one out in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon. Marquard(10-8) suffered the loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 7 innings of work. Gregg didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 12 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'
