WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Richie Ashburn robbed Elmer Valo of an extra base hit.

Richie Ashburn had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the New York Yankees beat the
struggling Cleveland Indians by a score of 6 to 4.

Bob Rush(2-4) had a fairly solid outing. He went 5 innings allowing 7 hits
and 1 walk. New York had 12 hits for the game and Cleveland had 9.

Cliff Chambers got the save, his 7th. Russ Meyer(5-9) was tagged with the
loss. New York knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 5 runs in 4 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Wayne Wilson said after the game. 'Rush did not have command of
his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
