Gil Hodges had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Crosley Field as the Philadelphia-AL
Athletics staged a comeback win over the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 7 to
4.

Philadelphia-AL had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning when
they came up with 4 runs on 4 hits. The key at-bat was by Hodges who quieted
the crowd when he stroked a one-base hit plating two runs. Fritz Dorish,
after tossing a perfect ninth, was credited with his 3rd save.

Lew Burdette(9-7) went 8 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Ernie
Johnson(3-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. 'The only way this one could
have been better', said Burdette, 'was if we had played it at home.'
