Cooper enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun in the 4th inning, tripled knocking in a run in the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh bats were very productive in the 4th inning when they had 6 runs on 5 hits and the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 6 hits. Pittsburgh managed 16 hits in their victory. Bob Turley(10-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 4 runs. Turley was helped out by Bob Friend who recorded his 4th save. Whitey Ford(8-7) was hit with the loss. His ERA ballooned from 2.88 to 3.37 as he allowed 9 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. 'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Cooper said.
